A large holiday apartment in Carinthia: room for families and groups
The most common mistake when looking for a large holiday apartment is to look at the square metres. What decides it is how the space is divided – and whether someone can close a door in the evening.
Count beds, not square metres
A bedroom with a double bed and a loft bed carries four people and still leaves the children to themselves. A sofa bed in the living room carries two – but only if nobody wants to stay up late.
At Turracher Höhe our Almzeit chalet apartment has two bedrooms, each with a double bed and a loft bed. That is the layout that works best for two families or for grandparents with grandchildren – two separate retreats rather than one large one.
On the Gerlitzen Alpe each of our two apartments has a bedroom, a sleeping alcove with a bunk bed and a sofa bed. That carries one family comfortably. If there are eight of you, take both apartments in the same building – we are happy to check whether that works for your dates.
The bathroom is the bottleneck
Eight people and one bathroom means the last person starts their ski day an hour late. Always ask how many bathrooms there are and whether the WC is separate.
The Ossiachersee apartment has a bathtub and a separate WC. For two people that is luxury; for six it would not be enough – which is why we only offer it for two.
A kitchen for six, not for two
All our units have their own kitchen or kitchenette with crockery, cookware and a fridge. If you are coming as a larger group, please say so when you enquire – we will check in advance that there are enough plates, glasses and pots for everyone.
What to tell us
The number of adults and children, with ages for the children. Whether a dog is coming. Whether you want to cook together or eat out. Whether one of you gets up early and another goes to bed late.
From those four things we can tell you which apartment fits – and tell you honestly if none of them does.
Around the building
At Turracher Höhe the piste and ski school are minutes away; in summer the Nocky Flitzer, Nocky's AlmZeit and the path around the Turracher See start practically at the door.
On the Gerlitzen Alpe the Kanzelhöhe adventure arena with summer tubing and archery, Carinthia's largest high ropes course and the kids' bike park are all within walking distance – which takes a lot of pressure out of the day with a larger group.
